In every bathroom you find several products made out of plastic or in a plastic container or packaging. The common person don´t even notice the unnecessary use of plastic in their bathroom. Toiletries like toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap dispensers and makeup wipes all comes with plastic.

Here´s how and why you should replace your plastic toiletries today.

The Shower

Shampoo, conditioner, hair masks, face masks, body scrubs, shaving cream and a lot of other essential products in your shower comes in a plastic container. Replace your shampoo and conditioner with solid bars that comes in recycled paper packaging, there is a lot of eco friendly shampoos and conditioners on the market right now so go and get them.

Replace your hair masks, face masks and body scrubs  with homemade products from stuff you got at home. While shaving your body you should use coconut oil which is gentle on your skin, instead of a shaving cream which causes rashes and ingrown hairs and is filled with chemicals. Hair masks, face scrubs and body scrubs are super easy, eco friendly and cheaper to make and you can find the tutorials on how to make them on our "Get Creative" page.

Skin Care

Make-up, skin care and face products have a huge impact on your carbon footprint. Both the products and the packaging the products come in are filled with toxic acids, micro plastic and plastic in general. When your are removing your make-up with wipes, you are basically using up to 65-75 percent of plastic because of the packaging and micro plastic in the wipes.

Instead of Make-up wipes you can use coconut oil, which is eco-friendly, vegan and good for your skin. Moisturizers, toners, face masks and hair masks are also very easy to make at home, and have the same affect on your skin, but a better affect on the environment.

Vegan, cruelty free, eco-friendly and gmo-free make up is also a thing. Cosmetic companies are focusing more and more about making their products and packaging eco-friendly, so stay updated on eco-friendly make-up brands, because there is already a lot of smaller companies who is already selling the vegan make-up dream.

Toothbrush and Toothpaste

Approximately one billion plastic toothbrushes are thrown away only in the United States annually, that´s 50 million pounds of waste. Roughly 3.5 billion toothbrushes are sold world wide each year! The fact that such a small garment causes so much waste is tragic, and it´s reason enough for you never get a plastic toothbrush again and get one in wood.

Toothpaste is also a huge part of plastic waste each year. By making your own toothpaste or replacing it with tooth tabs such as denttabs is making a huge different on the environment and in your new eco friendly bathroom.

Toilet Paper

Recycled toilet paper, yes that is a thing. Ecoleaf toilet paper is made from 100% recycled paper and the packaging is said to be 100% compostable. WIN.

Towels

Your everyday towel is filled with micro plastic and is usually made out of polyester with a small amount of cotton. Towels which contains micro plastic is a environment enemy. The tiny plastic fibers that come off when you wash your towels are very difficult to filter out in wastewater treatment treatment plants and then ends up in the oceans and it becomes a part of an increasing contribution of plastic that ends up in the ocean every year.

Towels and cloths made out of bamboo fiber are much better for the environment and have several benefits for your skin, hair and face. Bamboo fiber towels also last longer and stays softer than other towels. IKEA recently launched their bamboo fiber towels for an affordable price.
